A simple yet very practical application of Oak and slate to produce a childs chalk drawing tablet.

 

The slate is encased in a solid Oak frame with the external edges rounded and the internal edges bevelled to 45 degrees.  The frame is sanded to give a smooth and tactile finish.

 

Two holes are drilled through the frame to allow for another natural material.  This time string, threaded through and knotted at each end to form the hanger.
